What we did
A website for El Olivo, a country house in Frigiliana (Axarquía, Málaga): two bedrooms, room for four guests, a private saltwater pool and a terrace with Mediterranean views. The goal isn’t just to show the house, but to sell the destination: the property is presented inside the wider travel experience across Frigiliana, El Acebuchal, Nerja, Granada and Málaga.
Scope of our work:
- Static site in Astro — our own architecture, templates and components, no page builders. Clean HTML and assets under our control.
- Bilingual ES/EN — Spanish at the root and English under
/es/, aimed at the international traveller booking rural accommodation in Andalusia. - Destination sections — the house, outside (terrace and pool), the surroundings (Frigiliana old town, El Acebuchal, Nerja, Granada, Málaga) and a journal of travel guides and lifestyle content.
- Local SEO and content — structure aimed at travellers searching for a country house in Frigiliana, with the journal driving destination traffic.
- Booking via Ruralidays — integration with the booking platform so payments and availability aren’t handled from the site.
How we built it
Stack: Astro with static output, custom theme and components (no page builders), image optimization at build time.
Decisions that shape the project:
- Static, not a heavy CMS. A country house doesn’t need a complex backend: Astro produces fast static pages that are cheap to serve and hard to break.
- Performance first. Optimized WebP images with explicit dimensions, lazy loading below the fold and minimal CSS/JS — important on a highly visual site full of hero and property imagery.
- Destination content as acquisition. The journal (guides to Frigiliana, Nerja, the Axarquía) reaches travellers before they decide where to stay, rather than competing only for “country house Frigiliana”.
What we didn’t do
- We don’t handle payments or the availability calendar from the site: booking is delegated to Ruralidays.
- We didn’t shoot the property photography: it belongs to the client.
